This year, Julie Rupert Events celebrates ten years of serving couples across Virginia. Over the last decade, we've had the privilege of planning hundreds of weddings and walking alongside couples as they began one of the most meaningful chapters of their lives.
Every wedding has been unique, but a few things have remained true year after year.
As we celebrate this milestone and our nomination for Best of Lynchburg, we wanted to share the lessons that continue to shape every wedding we plan. We hope these reflections inspire a celebration that's just as meaningful years from now as it is on the day you say, "I do."
1. The weddings people remember always feel personal.
One of the greatest privileges of being a wedding planner is seeing how differently every couple celebrates the same commitment. No two weddings are alike, and that's exactly how it should be.
It's easy to get caught up in trends, but the weddings that leave the biggest impression are the ones that feel genuine. Every decision reflects the couple and the life they're building together.
Our role isn't to shape your wedding into our vision. It's to listen well, understand what matters most to you, and bring your vision to life with thoughtful guidance every step of the way.
2. Guest experience and your experience should go hand in hand.
Creating an exceptional guest experience has always been a priority. When guests feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for, it changes the atmosphere of the entire celebration.
But we've also seen couples become so focused on everyone else's experience that they forget to enjoy their own.
The most memorable weddings make space for both. Your guests should feel cared for, and you should have time to hug your grandparents, laugh with your bridal party, and soak in the moments you've spent months planning.
3. The best wedding days are built by a team, not a single vendor.
We've learned that the most seamless wedding days happen when talented vendors genuinely work together.
Behind every wedding is a team communicating, anticipating needs, solving problems before they arise, and supporting one another so every part of the day comes together with care.
That's why we've always valued strong relationships within the Virginia wedding industry. When your planner, photographer, florist, caterer, DJ, venue, and rental team are working together, you can feel the difference. The day feels calmer, more intentional, and allows everyone (especially you) to simply enjoy the celebration.
4. Some details deserve your attention. None of them deserve your peace.
Wedding planning comes with hundreds of decisions, and each one helps tell your story.
What we've learned is that those details don't have to carry the weight we sometimes give them.
Guests rarely remember the color of the napkins or the style of the candles. They remember how they felt, the conversations they shared, and the joy that filled the day.
Thoughtful details absolutely have their place. They create a beautiful, cohesive experience. But they should add to the excitement of planning, not take away from it.
5. Decide what matters most before the opinions start rolling in.
Wedding advice comes from every direction, often with the best intentions.
We always recommend that our couples sit down together early in the planning process and decide what matters most to the two of you. Your priorities won't look exactly like someone else's, and they shouldn't.
When you begin planning with a clear understanding of what matters most, your budget becomes easier to build, decisions become easier to make, and it's much easier to filter outside opinions through the lens of what's right for your relationship instead of trying to make everyone happy.
6. You can't control the weather, but you can prepare for it.
If there's one thing couples often worry about, it's the weather - especially for outdoor weddings in Virginia.
Over the years, we've seen beautiful weddings unfold in sunshine, rain, and everything in between. More often than not, the weather became a much smaller part of the day than couples expected.
While no one can control the forecast, thoughtful backup plans, an experienced vendor team, and a planner who's already thinking several steps ahead allow you to navigate unexpected changes with confidence.
Some of our favorite weddings haven't happened under perfect skies. They've happened when couples embraced the day they were given and focused on what mattered most: celebrating their marriage with the people they love.
7. Presence will always matter more than perfection.
Years from now, you won't remember every item on your wedding checklist. You'll remember how it felt to stand at the end of the aisle, hear your favorite people cheering, and look around a room filled with everyone who helped shape your story.
That's why we believe your wedding day should be spent experiencing the moments that matter most, not managing the logistics. By the time your wedding day arrives, you've spent months making decisions and thinking through every part of the celebration. You deserve a day where you can let it all go, trust your team, and simply be present.
Your job is to get married. Our job is to take care of everything else.
That's the kind of wedding experience we want every couple to have.
8. The weddings we remember most are the ones that feel authentic.
People often ask us which weddings have been our favorites over the years.
The answer has very little to do with the budget or the venue. The weddings we remember most are the ones where personalities shine through every part of the day, and couples celebrate in ways that genuinely reflect who they are. Those are the weddings that leave a lasting impression because they were deeply personal.
9. Every wedding has made us better.
Every wedding has taught us something, helping us refine our planning process and serve each new couple with even greater care.
After ten years, one thing is certain: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to planning a meaningful wedding. Every couple is different, and we believe your planning experience should reflect that.
10. Your wedding is the beginning of something much bigger.
After ten years, we've been reminded again and again that a wedding is about so much more than one beautiful day.
It's the beginning of a marriage. And at the end of your beautiful celebration, what remains are the promises you made to one another and the life you begin building together.
We hope your wedding reflects your personalities, welcomes your guests with intention, and creates memories you'll treasure for decades to come. More than anything, we hope it marks the beginning of a marriage filled with joy, grace, and countless reasons to celebrate in the years ahead.
